Property rights are generally used to protect your own product portfolio. However, they can also be exploited in other ways, for example by selling or licensing them. In such cases, the valuation of property rights is often part of the procedure. Valuing property rights can also be an important part of insolvency proceedings, or when using them as collateral for bank loans, etc.
Valuing intellectual property rights usually precedes a due diligence procedure. In such cases, an assessment is made of formal legal status issues, whilst also looking for possible risks and dangers. The actual property right valuation includes own use and market opportunities. For professional ethical reasons, patent attorneys are not permitted to carry out professional property right exploitation themselves. In this area, we work closely with specialist partners.
